Elementary School

Rockfish Country Kids (RCK) school strives to nurture the whole child – physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively, and most importantly, spiritually, promoting a lifelong love of learning. By combining the educational framework of Montessori, Reggio, Forest School, and Waldorf, we meet and often exceed educational standards in a unique way.

We emphasize independence and respect for a child’s natural psychological development while teaching a biblical worldview with developmentally appropriate methods. 

We believe children are not made to sit at a desk all day with teachers monologuing lessons, but that today’s classrooms need to be exploratory, interactive, challenging, and project-based — environments where students are actively engaged in their learning journey. We know that children are both excited to learn about things they are interested in and enjoy working in small, focused groups either with the teacher or themselves. Students get the personalized support they need to advance in their education as they learn at their own pace with these ideas.

At forest school, we see the additional benefits of using nature as the primary context of learning. The curriculum is nature as the children explore the world around them through an emergent and inquiry-based learning style. Students can observe and ask questions for short and long-term investigations that integrate multiple subjects such as bible, math, science, and literacy in whole groups, small groups, and individually; as some planned teacher-facilitated activities, child-initiated interests, and spontaneous pursuits; in the play areas, and throughout the grounds. Through nature-based education, we foster curiosity, community, and imagination to inspire stewardship and empower learners who will have a lifelong connection to the world that God created.
